Ioannes 12 was the only son of St Philaretos (Philaretos 1) and Theosebo 1; brother of Hypatia 1 and Euanthia 1; husband of Eirene 2, and father of Bardas 1, Eustathios 1, Niketas 8, Philaretos 3, Helene 1, Euphemia 1 and Hypatia 3: Nicetas, Vita Philareti, pp. 115. 5 (παιδάριον ἓν πάνυ ὡραῖον τοὔνομα Ἰωάννης), 139. 3 (ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ γέροντος τοὔνομα Ἰωάννης, πάνυ ὡραῖος), 141. 17 (ὁ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ Ἰωάννης), 141. 25 (the first born - τοῦ δὲ πρωτοτόκου υἱοῦ ἡ γυνὴ ἤτοι τοῦ Ἰωάννου; he was husband of Eirene 2).
