Hypatia 1 was a daughter of St Philaretos (Philaretos 1) and Theosebo 1, sister of Ioannes 12 and Euanthia 1: Nicetas, Vita Philareti, p. 115, line 6 (καὶ θυγατέρες δύο, ὄνομα τῇ μιᾷ Ὑπατία). She was the eldest daughter and was already a widow when the family moved to Constantinople (in 788): Nicetas, Vita Philareti, p. 141, lines 17-18 (ἡ δὲ θυγατηρ ἡ πρώτη αὐτοῦ Ὑπατία, χήρα δὲ αὕτη). She was the mother of Maria 2 (Maria of Amnia), Myranthia 1, Euanthia 2 and Petronas 2: Nicetas, Vita Philareti, p. 141, lines 19-21 (τῆς δὲ χήρας αἱ θυγατέρες : ἡ μὲν πρώτη Μαρία, ἡ δὲ δευτέρα Μυρανθία, ἡ δὲ τρίτη Εὐανθία, καὶ ὁ τούτων ἀδελφὸς Πετρωνᾶς).
