Petronas 2 was a grandson of St Philaretos (Philaretos 1), son of Hypatia 1, brother of Maria 2, Myranthia 1 and Euanthia 2: Nicetas, Vita Philareti, p. 141, lines 20-21 (καὶ ὁ τούτων ἀδελφὸς Πετρωνᾶς). The family was of Armenian descent; see Maria 2.
