Euanthia 2 was a granddaughter of Philaretos 1 (St Philaretos), she was the third daughter of Hypatia 1 and sister of Maria 2, Myranthia 1 and Petronas 2: Nicetas, Vita S. Philareti, p. 141, line 20 (ἡ δὲ τρίτη θυγάτηρ Εὐανθία). After her two elder sisters had married respectively the emperor Constantine VI (Konstantinos 8) and Konstantinakios 1, Euanthia 2 was wooed by the Lombard king Argousis (Grimoald 1) and was sent to marry him: Nicetas, Vita S. Philareti, p. 143, lines 20-25 (τὴν δὲ τρίτην, ἀπέλυσε πρέσβεις ὁ τῶν Λογγιβάρδων βασιλεύς, τὸ ὄνομα Ἀργούσης μετὰ καὶ δώρων πολλῶν πρὸς τῷ βασιλεῖ Κωνσταντίνῳ, αἰτούμενος ταύτην μνηστεύσασθαι εἰς γυναῖκα. Ὅπερ καὶ γέγονε). The marriage is recorded also in Erchempert, Hist. Lang. Benevent. 4-5 (p. 236) ("hac etiam tempestate idem Grimoalt neptem Augusti Achivorum in coniugium sumpsit nomine Wantiam"). The family was of Armenian descent; see Maria 2.
