Theodikios 1 was the Lombard dux of Spoletium; in 768, after promises that the Church would secure his salvation, he escorted Christophoros 26 and Sergios 53 to the court of king Desiderius (Desiderios 3), north of the Po, where they asked the king to intervene against the improperly elected bishop of Rome, Constantinus (Konstantinos 140): Lib. Pont. 96. 5. Later in 768 allegations were made that he had conspired with the Lombard priest Waldipert 1 and some unnamed Romans to kill Christophoros 26 and other leading Roman notables and deliver the city into the hands of the Lombards: Lib. Pont. 96. 15 ("cum Theodicio duce Spolitino").

In 772, immediately on the election as pope of Hadrian I (Hadrianos 1), the dux of Spoletium Theodikios 1 ("Theodicium, ducem Spolitinum") was one of the three envoys sent by the Lombard king, Desiderius (Desiderios 3), to Rome to establish friendly relations with him; the others were Tunno 1 and Prandoulos 1; in reply to Hadrianos 1's doubts that Desiderios 3 could be relied on, they swore that he would restore the rights not restored during the papacy of Stephen IV (III) (Stephanos 84), and Hadrianios 1 gave way and sent his own envoys to Desiderios 3: Lib. Pont. 97. 5-6. When the people of Spoletium surrendered to Hadrian I, the pope Hadrianos 1 named Hildeprand 2 as the dux of Spoletium: Lib. Pont. 97. 33.
