Petros 67 was appointed dux of Rome by the emperor Philippicus (Philippikos 1) and sent to Ravenna to take up his appointment ("contigit ut Petrus quidam pro ducatu Romanae urbis Ravennam dirigeret"); his appointment was violently resisted at Rome by the people, who regarded the emperor as a heretic; they were led by Christophoros 23 and Agatho 4, and fighting broke out between the followers of Petros 67 and those of Christophoros 23 and Agatho 4; the intervention of pope Constantine (Konstantinos 136) ended the fighting and the followers of Petros 67 were allowed to withdraw: Lib. Pont. 90. 10. Shortly afterwards ("non post multos autem dies") news came of the death of Philippikos 1 and the accession of Anastasius (Anastasios 6); a new exarchos, Scholastikios 1, then arrived and about this time Petros 67 assumed office and undertook to cause no opposition ("dum autem haec gererentur, obtinuit Petrus ducatum, promittens quod nequaquam adversare niteret"): Lib. Pont. 90. 11. He was apparently appointed in 712 or 713 by the emperor Philippikos 1 but assumed office only under Anastasios 6, therefore probably in 713. Petros 67 is perhaps identical with the dux Petros who was blinded by the Romans in the time of the emperor Leo III (Leo 3), allegedly (according to the longer recension) for writing to the emperor against the bishop of Rome, pope Gregory II (Gregorios 72): Lib. Pont. 91. 18 ("Petrum ducem, dicentes contra pontificem imperatori scripsisse, orbaverunt sc. Romani omnes"). See also Exilaratos 2.
