Christophoros 23 was a dux of Rome during the pontificate of Constantine (Konstantinos 136) (708/715); in 711/713 a successor, Petros 67, was appointed by the emperor Philippicus (Philippikos 1), but because of the new emperor's heretical opinions the appointment was not accepted at Rome and Christophoros 23, together with Agatho 4, opposed Petros 67 by force; there was fighting in Rome in the Via Sacra and several persons perished before pope Constantine (Konstantinos 136) intervened to calm the parties down and arrange for the withdrawal of the party of Petros 67: Lib. Pont. 90. 10. Under the following emperor Anastasius (Anastasios 6) (713/715), Petros 67 took up his appointment: Lib. Pont. 90. 11. Presumably Christophoros 23 remained in position as dux of Rome until then.
