During the papacy of Constantine (Konstantinos 136) (708/715) and the reign of Philippicus (Philippikos 1) (711/713) Agatho 4 and his followers joined the dux Christophoros 23 in resisting the appointment as dux of Rome of Petros 67; there was fighting at Rome in the Via Sacra before the palace until the pope restored peace and arranged for the withdrawal of the forces supporting Petros 67: Lib. Pont. 90. 10 (dum Christoforus, qui erat dux, ob hanc causam cum Agathone et suis hominibus concertarent, bellum civile exortum est). Agatho 4 was apparently a leader of the people of Rome, a majority of whom refused to accept an appointment made by an emperor (Philippikos 1) whom they considered a heretic.
