Warnehar 1 was an abbot, he was sent to Rome by the Frankish king Pippinus (Pepin 1); in 756 he returned with envoys from the pope (Stephen III (II), Stephanos 8) to inform Pepin 1 of the attacks on Rome and the neighbourhood by the Lombard king Aistulf 1 and to seek his intervention; he is mentioned in letters of pope Stephen III (II) (Stephanos 8): Codex Carolinus, nos. 8 and 9 (pp. 497-498, 500) ("Warneharium religiosum abbatem missum vestrum"; his fellow envoys were Georgios 221, Thomarichos 2 and Komitas 6), Lib. Pont. 94. 42 ("una cum quodam religioso viro Warnario nomine"). He had personally taken part in the defence of Rome: Codex Carolinus, nos. 8, 9 (pp. 498, 500) (the same letters of pope Stephanos 8) ("praefatus vero Warneharius pro amore beati Petri loricam se induens, per muros istius afflictae Romanae civitatis, vigilabat die noctuque et pro nostra omnium Romanorum defensione atque liberatione, ut bonus athleta Christi, decertavit totis suis cum viribus").
