Trasimund 2 was Lombard comes of Capua ("Transemundum vero comitem Capuanum"); when Grimoald 3 left Beneventum for Ticinum to become king, he sent Transemundus to win over the Lombards of Spoletium and Tuscia; once he had accomplished this task, he rejoined Grimoald with many reinforcements in Aemilia: Paul. Diac., Hist. Lang. IV 51. In 663, after Grimoald defeated the Roman army under the emperor Constans II (Konstans 1) and recovered Beneventum and its neighbourhood, Trasimund, formerly comes of Capua, who had helped Grimoald secure the throne, was married to one of Grimoald's daughters (see Anonyma 49) and made dux of Spoletium in succession to Atto 1: Paul. Diac., Hist. Lang. V 16 ("Transamundum, qui dudum Capuae comes fuerat et ei ad percipiendum regnum strenuissime paruerat, data ei in matrimonium sua filia, Romualdi altera sorore, eum post Attonem, de quo superius diximus, apud Spoletium ductorem effecit"). He was brother of Wachilap 1, who shared the rule of Spoletium with him; he was father of Faroald 1, who succeeded him as dux of Spoletium when he died: Paul. Diac., Hist. Lang. VI 30. The son of Faroald, Trasimund' s grandson, was also called Trasimund (see Trasimund 3): Paul. Diac., Hist. Lang. VI 44.
