Atto 1 was a Lombard dux of Spoletium; he was the successor of Theudelapius 1 some time in the mid seventh century: Paul. Diac., Hist. Lang. IV 50 ("Atto eidem civitati ductor efficitur"). He was succeeded by Transamundus (Trasimund 2) during the reign of Grimoald 3 (a. 662-671): Paul. Diac., Hist. Lang. V 16. The text does not specifically state that he died in office, and he may have been removed by Grimoald 3 in favour of Trasimund 2; the date was shortly after Grimoald 3 captured Beneventum and the surrounding regions from the Byzantines ("a Grecis").
