Theophilos 24 was bishop of Amorion; he was sent with Samuel 2 by the patriarch Photios 1 on an embassy to pope Nicolas I (Nikolaos 28) at Rome, to ask for papal representatives to be sent to a Council at Constantinople to discuss the state of the Church: Nicetas, Vita Ignatii 516B (ἀποστέλλει τοίνυν Θεόφιλον ἐπίσκοπον τοῦ Ἀμορίου καὶ Σαμουὴλ ...). The date was after Photios 1 became patriarch in late 858 and before the Council at Constantinople in 861. This is presumably the same embassy as that recorded in Lib. Pont. 107. 18, where Theophilos 24 is one of two deposed bishops (the other was Zacharias 21) sent with bishops Methodios 4 and Samuel 2 and the protospatharios Arsaber 7 by the emperor Michael III (Michael 11) on an embassy to Nikolaos 28 with gifts and letters asking the pope to send representatives to Constantinople ostensibly to discuss matters concerning the iconoclasts but actually to enquire into the facts surrounding Ignatios 1 and Photios 1. Theophilos 24 had perhaps been deposed by Ignatios 1 and not reinstated to his see when the embassy was sent. See Grumel, Regestes, no. 467.
