Silouanos 2 was a Stoudite monk and the addressee of three letters from Theodore the Stoudite (Theodoros 15), one of them jointly with his fellow monk Euprepianos 1: Theod. Stud., Epp. 41, pp. 121-122 (addressed Σιλουανῷ καὶ Εὐπρεπιανῷ τέκνοις); 288, p. 428 (addressed Σιλουανῷ τέκνῳ); 366, p. 499 (addressed Σιλουανῷ τέκνῳ). He is also mentioned in eight other letters of Theodoros 15: Theod. Stud., Epp. 76, pp. 197-198; 96, pp. 216-217; 110, p. 228; 111, pp. 228-229; 153, pp. 273-274; 478, pp. 695-698; 511, pp. 759-761; 529, pp. 791-792. The letters range in date from 809 to 826. He is also mentioned in the Catechesis Magna of Theodoros 15: Theod. Stud., Catech. Magn. 61 (p. 431 Papadopoulos-Kerameus). He and Euprepianos 1 were informed by Theodoros 15 of the secret code by which Theodoros 15 proposed to refer to individual Stoudite monks suffering during the dispute over the Moechian affair: Theod. Stud., Ep. 41, pp. 121-122. He was a strong supporter of icon veneration, who left Constantinople during the persecution under Leo V (Leo 15) and lived with his fellow monk Loukianos 1: Theod. Stud., Ep. 366, p. 499. He and other monks associated with him (see Hypatios 7 and Theoktistos 20) received great support during the persecution from Anna 12: Theod. Stud., Ep. 96, pp. 216-217. Between 824 and 826 he gave comfort and support to Eudokimos 5 (blinded probably for his support for the rebellion of Thomas the Slav, Thomas 7): Theod. Stud., Ep. 511, p. 759, line 3 (Σιλουανοῦ τοῦ αἰδεσιμωτάτου ἡμῶν ἀδελφοῦ). He was acquainted with the nun Anna 12, Theod. Stud., Ep. 96, p. 216, line 14; with Eudokia 6, Theod. Stud., Ep. 529, p. 791, line 2 (τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ Σιλουανοῦ); and with the sakellarios Leo 260, Theod. Stud., Ep. 478, p. 695, line 5 (τῷ ἀδελφῷ Σιλουανῷ).
