Hypatios 7 was a Stoudite monk; he was the addressee of three letters from Theodore the Stoudite (Theodoros 15): Theod. Stud., Epp. 220, 236 (both M/L 816), 441 (a. 821/826) (all addressed Ὑπατίῳ τέκνῳ). He is mentioned in eleven further letters of Theodoros 15: Theod. Stud., Ep. 81 (spring 816), Ep. 96 (a. 816/818), Ep. 139 (summer 816), Ep. 142 (c. 816), Ep. 150 (summer 816), Ep. 152 (summer 816), Ep. 190 (L 816/E 817), Ep. 204 (E/M 817), Ep. 361 (M 816/L 818), Ep. 388 (a. 818), Ep. 389 (a. 817/818). He and Nikolaos 26 accompanied Theodoros 15 from Metopa to Boneta in spring 816: Theod. Stud., Ep. 81. During the persecution under Leo V (Leo 15) he weakened in the face of torture and briefly deserted the iconophile cause (cf. Euodios 2): Theod. Stud., Ep. 190. He was one of the group of monks associated with Thaddaios 1: Theod. Stud., Epp. 190, 204. He and other monks associated with him (see Silouanos 2 and Theoktistos 20) received great support during the persecution from Anna 12: Theod. Stud., Ep. 96, pp. 216-217. He met and gained the approval of the monk Basilios 128: Theod. Stud., Ep. 361. He was in contact with the group of monks associated with Symeon 27: Theod. Stud., Ep. 388. He was also in contact with Anonyma 90 (an unnamed abbess): Theod. Stud., Ep. 142. He is referred to as τὸν ἀββᾶν Ὑπάτιον, Theod. Stud., Epp. 96, 139; as τοῦ πνευματικοῦ ἡμῶν τέκνου, Ep. 142; and as ἀδελφός, Epp. 142, 150.
