Anna 12 was a nun, addressee of three letters from Theodore the Stoudite (Theodoros 15) written between 809 and 818: Theod. Stud., Ep. 42, pp. 122-124; 96, pp. 216-217; 289, pp. 428-429 (all addressed Ἄννῃ μοναζούσῃ). Probably older than Theodoros 15, who describes her (in 809/811) as like a mother to him (μητρικῇ κηδεμονίᾳ: p. 122, line 4); she had a daughter of her own, care for whom interfered with her own devotions; Theodoros 15 wrote to her with advice on how to pray; he styles her σου τῆς θεοσεβείας (p. 122, line 10): Theod. Stud., Ep. 42, pp.122-124 (a. 809/811). During the iconoclast persecution (under Leo V (Leo 15)), she gave great support to a number of monks who were suffering under it, especially to Hypatios 7, Theoktistos 20, Silouanos 2 and those with them; Theodoros 15 wrote her a letter of thanks; he styles her τῇ ἐμῇ κυρία (p. 216, line 2): Theod. Stud., Ep. 96, pp. 216-217 (a. 816/818). During winter 817/818 she sent him gifts; he styles her ἡ σεβασμιότης σου (p. 428, line 6): Theod. Stud., Ep. 289, pp. 428-429 (winter 817/818).
