Loukianos 1 was a Stoudite monk, the addressee of two letters from Theodore the Stoudite (Theodoros 15), and is mentioned in sixteen others, all dateable between 809 and 826: Theod. Stud., Epp. 258, pp. 387-388; 394, pp. 548-549 (addressed to him), Epp. 41, pp. 121-122; 150, pp. 268-269; 179, p. 302; 186, pp. 308-310; 187, pp. 310-311; 190, pp. 314-315; 191, pp. 315-316; 195, pp. 318-319; 198, p. 321; 199, p. 322; 204, pp. 326-327; 220, p. 342; 236, p. 370; 328, p. 469; 366, p. 499; 441, pp. 620-622. He was one of the ten Stoudite monks in the group associated with Thaddaios 1: Theod. Stud., Epp. 186, p. 309, line 32; 187, p. 311, line 23; 190, p. 314, line 23; 191, p. 315, line 21; 195, p. 318, line 7; 198, p. 321, line 15; 199, p. 322, line 6. During the iconoclast persecution under Leo V (Leo 15) he briefly lapsed and condemned the veneration of icons, but was quick to repent and perform a penance: Theod. Stud., Ep. 301 (a. 817/818). For a time during this persecution he lived away from Constantinople in company with his fellow monk, a strong supporter of icon veneration, Silouanos 2: Theod. Stud., Ep. 366, p. 499, line 4. He is described as a spiritual guide and a model for the monk Iakobos 14: Theod. Stud., Ep. 441, p. 621, line 17; Catech. Parva 133 (p. 466 Auvray). He is referred to as "abbas" (ἀββᾶς) in one of the sermons of Theodoros 15: Theod. Stud., Catech. Parva 133 (p. 466 Auvray). He is also mentioned in Theod. Stud., Catech. Magna 36 (p. 267 Papadopoulos-Kerameus).
