Iakobos 14 was a Stoudite monk. He was the addressee of two letters from Theodore the Stoudite (Theodoros 15): Theod. Stud., Epp. 189, 328 (both addressed Ἰακώβῳ τέκνῳ). He is mentioned in five further letters of Theodoros 15, written between 816 and 824: Theod. Stud., Epp. 186, 190, 195, 199, 441. During the persecution under Leo V (Leo 15) he was a member of the group of monks associated with Thaddaios 1: Theod. Stud., Ep. 186. He had pursued the life of an ascetic monk from childhood (ἐκ νεότητος ἤθλησεν, ὑποταγεὶς ἐννόμως); he was a disciple of Theodoros 15 and a pupil of Loukianos 1 (ὁ ἐκείνου παιδαγωγὸς Λουκιανός); during the persecution under Leo 15 he suffered severe beatings and was left nearly dead, remaining a permanent invalid; he died in c. 824 after foreseeing that his death was imminent: Theod. Stud., Ep. 441. His death is recorded in one of the sermons of Theodoros 15, Theod. Stud., Catech. Parva 115 (p. 396 Auvray); and his link with Loukianos 1 in another, Theod. Stud., Catech. Parva 133 (p. 466 Auvray). He is recorded among the loyal followers of Theodoros 15 (τῶν μαθητῶν ἔνιοι χρόνιοι: Vita A; τοὺς οἰκείους ... μαθητὰς: Vita B; οἱ τούτου μαθηταὶ: Vita C) who suffered like him during the persecution under Leo V (Leo 15): Vita A Theod. Stud. 205C, Vita B Theod. Stud. 301D (ὁ καρτερικώτατος Ἰάκωβος), Vita C Theod. Stud. 291. Called a confessor of Christ (τὴν ἱερὰν κοίμησιν Ἰακώβου τοῦ ὁμολογητοῦ Χριστοῦ καὶ ἡμῶν ἀδελφοῦ ἀξιεράστου): Theod. Stud., Ep. 441.
