Iordanes 2 was chartularius, in Italy and at Rome ("Iordannes chartularius"); he conspired with the dux Basilios 55 and the subdeacon Ioannes 232 to assassinate pope Gregory II (Gregorios 72); they received official support from the emperor through Marinos 12; they were unable to find an opportunity to carry out their plan: Lib. Pont. 91. 14 ("tempus invenire non potuerunt"). Later they conspired again with the support of Paulos 48, but the plot was discovered by the people of Rome and Iordanes 2 and Ioannes 232 were killed: Lib. Pont. 91. 15. The date is uncertain but the story is narrated before the account of how the emperor Leo III (Leo 3) started to impose iconoclast policies. It may therefore be in the earlier part of the pontificate of Gregory II (Gregorios 72; AD 715-731).
