Basilios 55 was a Dux (in Italy) (not the dux of Rome, see Marinos 12); he was involved with Iordanes 2 and Ioannes 232 in a plot to assassinate pope Gregory II (Gregorios 72), in which they received official support from the emperor (Leo III, Leo 3) through Marinos 12; they were unable to find an opportunity: Lib. Pont. 91. 14. Later they received official help and support also from Paulos 48, but the plot was discovered by the people at Rome; Iordanes 2 and Ioannes 232 were killed, while Basilios 55 had to become a monk and ended his life in obscurity ("Basilius vero, monachus factus, in loco quodam retrusus vitam finivit"): Lib. Pont. 91. 15.
