Ignatios 22 was a Stoudite monk; he was the addressee of six letters from Theodore the Stoudite (Theodoros 15), written between 815 and 818: Theod. Stud., Epp. 130 (a. 815), 131 (spring 816), 184 (a. 816/818), 226 (?autumn 816), 290 (a. 818), 308 (a. 818) (all addressed Ἰγνατίῳ τέκνῳ or τῷ αὐτῷ). He is mentioned in nine further letters from the same period: Theod. Stud., Epp. 118, 133, 146, 150, 223, 225, 330, 411, 498. Possibly he was one of the epistemonarchai appointed by Theodoros 15 in the Stoudite monastery: cf. Theod. Stud., Epigrammata 8, Vita B Theod. Stud. In 815 and afterwards Ignatios 22 was living in the monastery of Sakkoudion together with Ioseph 3, Naukratios 1 and other Stoudite monks: Theod. Stud., Epp. 130, 184, cf. 133, 146, 150, 223, 225. During the persecution under Leo V (Leo 15) he found refuge once in the house of Anonyma 66: Theod. Stud., Ep. 330. For a while he was in flight with Eusebios 4 and others of the same mind: Theod. Stud., Ep. 308. In 819 he briefly deserted the iconophile cause but was soon persuaded to return by Naukratios 1: Theod. Stud., Ep. 411. He acted as a copyist for Theodoros 15: Theod. Stud., Ep. 226. At an uncertain date, but possibly in 823 he delivered a letter for Theodoros 15 to Anonyma 96 (unnamed tourmarchissa of Hellas), with whom he was apparently acquainted: Theod. Stud., Ep. 498 (τοῦ γραμματηφόρου Ἰγνατίου, τοῦ πνευματικοῦ ἡμῶν υἱοῦ). He is alluded to as a calligrapher (καλλιγραφῶν): Theod. Stud., Catech. Magna 47. Possibly the protokalligraphos in the Stoudite monastery. He may have been a priest: Theod. Stud., Catech. Magna 84. He is alluded to as τέκνον ἠγαπημένον, Theod. Stud., Ep. 308; and as ὁ ἀββᾶς Ἰγνάτιος, Epp. 223, 411.
