Grimoald 2 was a Lombard missus regis (royal messenger) of the Lombard king Liutprand 1; sent to escort pope Zacharias (Zacharias 16) from Horta to Narnia in 742 on his way to meet Liutprand 1 at Interamna: Lib. Pont. 93. 6 ("misit Grimualdum missum suum"). Later that year Grimoald 2 was sent with Agiprand 1, Tacipert 1 and Ramning 1 to escort Zacharias 16 on his return from Interamna and to hand over to him certain cities formerly seized by the Lombards; they escorted Zacharias 16 to Ameria, Horta and Polymartium, and then Grimoald 2 ("ipse missus regis Grimualdus") guided Zacharias 16 across country by a shorter route through Lombard territory past Viterbo to Blera, which Grimoald 2 and Ramning 1 then surrendered to Zacharias 16: Lib. Pont. 93. 11.
