Anonyma 56 was hegoumene (ἡγουμένη) of the monastery of Kloubion at Constantinople: Sabas, Vita Ioannicii 33, Petrus, Vita Ioannicii 57-58. She refused permission for Isaakios 7 to become a monk, on the grounds that as kourator of the monastery's properties he was indispensable, and she resisted attempts, supported by Ioannikios 2, to persuade her to change her mind; she was encouraged in her resistance by the Stoudite monks under Athanasios 8 and Naukratios 1: Sabas, Vita Ioannicii 33, Petrus, Vita Ioannicii 57. Subsequently, she visited Ioannikios 2 (on Mt Trichalix, near the monastery of the Agauroi) for his blessing, accompanied by a nun who was also her daughter (Anonyma 57; Petrus called the nun her daughter, Sabas called her only a nun); after receiving the blessing, Anonyma 56 was surprised when Ioannikios 2 handed the staff of office (ῥάβδον ποιμνιαρχίας) to Anonyma 57 instead of to her; she later complained to Eustratios 19, who was present, and he explained that Ioannikios 2 had foreseen that she was shortly to die and would be succeeded as hegoumene by her daughter Anonyma 57; soon after Anonyma 56's return to Constantinople, she died and was succeeded by her daughter: Sabas, Vita Ioannicii 33 (τῆς αὐτῆς εὐλαβοῦς ἡγουμένης τοῦ Κλουβίου), Petrus, Vita Ioannicii 58 (ἡ προλεχθεῖσα ἡγουμένη). The date was apparently after the death of Theodore the Stoudite (Theodoros 15) and during the reign of Michael II (Michael 10), i.e. 826/829; see Ioannikios 2.
