Valentinus 3 was a priest; in 769 he and the deacon Ioannes 237 attended the Council of Rome as representatives of the archbishop of Ravenna (here named as Leo; in fact Sergius still held the post; see Leo 114 and Sergios 54): Lib. Pont. 96. 17 ("Valentinus presbiter et Iohannes diaconus, presentantes locum domno Leone archiepiscopo civitate Ravennate"). They are named first in the list of bishops and clergy from Italy. They were presumably clergy in the church of Ravenna.
