Theophanes 54 was a spatharios; he and Theodosios 77 were envoys sent by the emperor Theophilos (Theophilos 5) to the Frankish emperor Louis the Pious (Lodoïchos 2) in 839, with a letter requesting confirmation of the peace; the embassy was accompanied by members of an embassy from the "Rhos", whom Theophilos 5 sent home by a roundabout route; they were received with honour at Ingelheim on 18 May: Prudentius of Troyes, Annales s.a. 839.
