Raginpert 1 was the son of the Lombard king Godepert 1; when his father was assassinated by Grimoald 3 (in c. 662) he was still in infancy; he was rescued by loyal servants of his father and brought up secretly; because of his age, Grimoald 3 made no attempt to find him: Paul. Diac., Hist. Lang. IV 51, cf. VI 18 ("Raginpert ... quem quondam rex Godipertus, cum extingueretur a Grimualdo, reliquerat parvolum"). In c. 700 Raginpert 1 was the dux of Turin ("Raginpertus dux Taurinensium"); he defeated Ansprand 1 and Rotharit 1 at the battle of Novaria and seized the kingship (from Liutpert 1) for himself, but died the same year: Paul. Diac. Hist., Lang. VI 18. He reigned jointly with his son Aripert II (Aripert 1): Paul. Diac., Hist. Lang. VI 35. He was the father of Aripert II (Aripert 1): Paul. Diac., Hist. Lang. VI 19, 35.
