Petronakios 1 was the bishop of an unknown see in Italy; one of a delegation of three bishops (the others were Nikolaos 48 and Ioannes 316) sent to summon Anastasius Bibliothecarius (Anastasios 25) to attend a church council to explain his prolonged absence from his parish; the date was between 848 and 853, possibly 853: Lib. Pont. 105. 92. Duchesne, Lib. Pont., pp. 138-9, n. 56, gives the date as 853 and also, with p. 149, n. 17, gives his name as both Petronax and Petronacius and identifies him with the unnamed bishop of Albanum recorded in Lib. Pont. 106. 16 who, with the bishop of Ostia, refused the demand of the Franks that they reconsecrate Anastasios 25, who was a deposed priest.
