Mauros 3 was bishop of Ravenna in 649; he was represented at the five sessions of the Lateran Council, in October 649, by the bishop of Caesena, Mauros 8, and a priest of Ravenna, Deusdedit 5: Conc. Lat., p. 2, lines 11-12 (Μαύρου ἐπισκόπου Κεσίνης καὶ Δευσδέδιτ πρεσβυτέρου Ραβέννης τὸν τόπον ἀναπληρούντων Μαύρου ἐπισκόπου τῆς αὐτῆς Ραβεννησίων πόλεως), p. 3, lines 11-12 ("Mauro Cesenate episcopo et Deusdedit presbitero agentes locum Mauri sanctissimi Ravennatis ecclesiae") (the first session), cf. pp. 31, 111, 177 and 247 (the Latin version only is repeated for the other sessions). After receiving from pope Martin (Martinos 6) a letter inviting him to attend the Council, he wrote a reply explaining that he was unable to attend in person because of the problems caused by barbarian incursions and the absence of an exarchos in Ravenna and so was sending as his representatives Mauros 8, bishop of Caesena, and one of his priests at Ravenna, Deusdedit 5; he also set out his own position on the issue of monotheletism: Conc. Lat., pp. 22-24, cf. p. 22, line 10 (Μαῦρος ὁ θεοφιλέστατος ἐπίσκοπος Ραβέννης) with p. 23, line 9, p. 22, lines 26-27 with p. 23, line 25, p. 22, line 33 with p. 23, line 33, p. 24, line 39 with p. 25, line 38, p. 26, line 5 with p. 27, line 3 (his letter was included in the acts of the Council). His representatives proposed the insertion into the acts of the Council of a letter written by bishop Sergios of Cyprus (Sergios 111) to pope Theodore (Theodoros 49): Conc. Lat., p. 64, lines 16-18 with p. 65, lines 15-17. Mauros 8 and Deusdedit 5 subscribed the definition of the faith agreed by the Council at its fifth session on behalf of Mauros: Conc.

Mauros 3 was archbishop of Ravenna; when Ravenna returned to its subjection to the bishop of Rome, pope Leo II (Leo 16) (682-683) ordered that the anniversary of Mauros 3 should not be celebrated ("sed nec Mauri quondam episcopi anniversitas aut agenda celebretur"): Lib. Pont. 82. 4. He was bishop of Ravenna in the time of pope Vitalian (Bitalianos 3) (657/672). See Duchesne, Lib. Pont., p. 361, note 7, and Agnellus, Lib. Pont. Eccl. Rav. 112.
