Markos 7 was archbishop of Ephesos; in 833 he and Anonymus 000 were sent by the emperor Theophilos 5 as envoys to the Frankish ruler Lodoïchos 2; on arrival they found that Lodoïchos 2 had died and so they were presented instead to his successor, Lotharios 1; they apparently reported bad news about Theophilos but no details are given; Lotharios sent them back to Constantinople after the embassy: Astronomus, Vita Hludowici imp. (ed. E. Tremp, MGH, Scr. Rer. Ger. in usum scholarum, Hanover, 1995) 49, p. 480 (legatio Constantinopolitani imperatoris, Marcus archiepiscopus Ephesi et protospatarius imperatoris; they described a "tragoediam"), cf. Annales Bertiniani (ed. G. Waitz, Scr. Rer. Ger. in usum scholarum, Hanover, 1883) s.a. 833, p. 7 (legati ex Constantinopoli, qui ad patrem fuerant destinati, ad Hlotharium pervenerunt eique epistolas et munera detulerunt; they reported "crimina" against the emperor).

He perhaps became bishop of Ephesos in succession to Theophilos 15, who fled into hiding under the emperor Theophilos 5.
