A monk, Iakobos 13 was an iconophile (Ἰάκωβος ὁ εὐλαβέστατος μονάζων καὶ τῆς αἱρέσεως ἀμέτοχος); he was one of those who persuaded Erastos 2, though not a priest, to administer the rite of baptism to a dying baby: Theod. Stud., Ep. 462 (?a. 823). The letter is addressed to Antonios 34, bishop of Dyrrhachion, where Iakobos 13 presumably lived. Iakobos 13 was the addressee of a letter from Theodore the Stoudite (Theodoros 15) in c. 823 which also refers to the matter of the baptism; he is addressed as τῇ σῇ τιμιότητι and τὴν ἁγιωσύνην σου and is addressed as ἀδελφὲ τιμιώτατε and φίλτατε: Theod. Stud., Ep. 466 (?a. 823; addressed Ἰακώβῳ μονάζοντι).
