Hagano 1 was a bishop of Bergomum (Bergamo); Hagano 1 worked with the archbishops of Trier and Cologne, Theutgaud 1 and Gunthar 1, and other unnamed bishops to secure the divorce of Theutberga 1, wife of king Lothar II (Lotharios 2), and the king's subsequent marriage to his mistress Waldrada 1: Lib. Pont. 107. 45. Hagano 1 was responsible for preparing various documents connected with the affair which were judged so ignorant and misleading that he was compared by some bishops to Heliu, one of the accusers of Job (for Elihu, see Book of Job 32-37), and he was subsequently deposed with the others involved: Lib. Pont. 107. 50.
