Guberios 1 was an envoy of the emperor Michael II (Michael 10), he was sent after the fall of Thomas the Slav (Thomas 7) to retake the fortress of Saniana (in Pontus Polemoniacus) which was occupied by one of Thomas 7's men, Gazarenos 1; Guberios 1 wrote a song with a message for one of Gazarenos 1's men in the fort, an oikonomos (Anonymus 191), and had it performed (by Anonymus 192); the song promised the man the position of metropolitan of Neokaisareia; Anonymus 191 then closed the gates of the fort against Gazarenos 1 and it fell into Michael 10's hands; the name of the envoy was contained in the words of the song, viz. Cont. II 20 (pp. 72-73). See Winkelmann, Quellenstudien, p. 168.
