Grimoald 6 was a Lombard; he was appointed dux of Beneventum by Charlemagne (Karoulos 1) in 788 following the death of his father (Arigis, = Arichis 4); in that year, with the dux of Spoletium, Hildeprand 2, and some Franks under Winichis 1, Grimoald 6 fought successfully against imperial (i.e. Byzantine) troops in Italy; they encountered imperial forces under Theodoros 13 in Calabria and won an overwhelming victory at no cost to themselves and returned with much booty and many prisoners: Annales Regni Francorum s.a. 788.

Grimoald 6 was the son of Arichis 4 and the younger brother of Romoald (not in PBE): Annales Regni Francorum s.a. 787. He was still alive in 802 when he defeated Winichis 1: Annales Regni Francorum s.a. 802. Presumably his mother was Adelperga 1.
