A monk, Euthymios 3 was a priest and hegoumenos of the monastery of Prinabaris at Smyrna (μοναχός τις ... ἐκ χώρας Ἀσίας μητροπόλεως Σμύρνης καὶ τῆς ἐκεῖσε μονῆς Πριναβάριος ἡγούμενος καὶ πρεσβύτερος); he subsequently told Sabas 1 about a visit he once paid to Peter of Atroa (Petros 34) at Kalon Oros in the company of two laymen from Smyrna (Anonymi 3); for fifteen years he had mentioned Petros 34 during the celebration of the liturgy but had never seen him; now he visited him to receive his blessing; he told how Petros 34's knowledge of the secret thoughts of himself and his companions had astounded them: Vita Petr. Atr. 73 (pp. 203-205). On the monastery of Pronovaris-Prinabaris, see Laurent, La Vie merveilleuse, p. 202, n. 1. The date was during the reign of Theophilos 5, probably after the start of persecution (832/833) and before the return of Petros 34 to St Porphyrios (835/836). Cf. Euthymios 12.
