Epiphanios 42 was basilikos spatharios and strategos of Hellas; owner of a seal dateable to the ninth century, possibly the first half (so Seibt, Bleisiegel 319): DOSeals II 8.42 = Zacos and Veglery 1875. The name and titles read: Ἐπιφανίῳ βασιλικῷ σπαθαρίῳ καὶ στρατηγῷ Ἑλλάδος. Seibt, loc. cit., suggested that this person was identical with Epiphanios 14 but not with Epiphanios 44, whose seals he dates later. The editors of DOSeals II on the other hand propose his identity with Epiphanios 44.
