Textual SourcesLateran Council = Concilium Lateranense anno 649 celebratum, ed. R. Riedinger, ACO II 1 (Berlin, 1984) (conciliar)

Deusdedit 4 was bishop of Caralis; he attended all five sessions of the Lateran Council, from 5 October to 31 October 649, and in the list of bishops present is named in third place: Conc. Lat., p. 2, line 10 (Δευσδέδιτ ἐπισκόπου Καράλεως), p. 3, line 10 ("Deusdedit sanctissimo Caralitano episcopo") (the first session), cf. pp. 31, 111, 177 and 247 (the Latin version only is repeated for the other sessions). At the first session he proposed that the writings of Cyrus of Alexandria (Kyros 2) and of the patriarchs Sergius, Pyrrhos 1 and Paulos 2 be examined to expose their heretical views: Conc. Lat., p. 28, line 11 (Δευσδέδιτ ὁ θεοφιλέστατος ἐπίσκοπος Καράλεως) with p. 29, line 10 ("Deusdedit venerabilis episcopus insulae Sardiniae"). At the second session he accepted that the libellus of the abbots and monks demonstrated their orthodoxy and confirmed that the views of Cyrus, Sergius, Pyrrhos and Paulos were heretical: Conc. Lat., p. 58, cf. line 1 (Δευσδέδιτ ὁ ἁγιώτατος ἐπίσκοπος Καράλεως) and p. 59, line 1 ("Deusdedit sanctissimus episcopus Caralitanus").

At the third session he condemned Cyrus, Sergius and Pyrros for accepting the heretical views of Severus and Themistius; he then asked for the Ekthesis of the emperor Heraklios to be read out to the Council: Conc. Lat., pp. 152-155, cf. p. 152, line 1 (Δευσδέδιτ ὁ θεοφιλέστατος ἐπίσκοπος Καράλεως) and p. 153, line 1 ("Deusdedit venerabilis episcopus Caralitanae ecclesiae insulae Sardiniae"). At the fourth session he commented that the letter sent by the patriarch Paul (Paulos 2) to pope Theodore (Theodoros 49) showed that he still adhered to the heretical views of the Ekthesis of Heraklios, in spite of many representations and pleas; he then asked for the Typos of the emperor Constans (Konstans 1) to be read out: Conc. Lat., pp. 204-207, cf. p. 204, line 10 (Δευσδέδιτ ἐπίσκοπος Καράλεως) and p. 205, line 11 ("Deusdedit sanctissimus episcopus Caralitanae ecclesiae"). At the fifth session, after the reading of passages from the Fathers and from heretics, he spoke after pope Martin (Martinos 6) and Maximos 4 of Aquileia in condemnation of heretics: Conc. Lat., pp. 352-359, cf. p. 352, line 11 (Δεουσδέδιτ ὁ ἁγιώτατος ἐπίσκοπος Καράλεως) and p. 353, line 11 ("Deusdedit sanctissimus episcopus insulae Sardiniae"). He subscribed the definition of the faith agreed by the Council at its fifth session: Conc. Lat., p. 390, line 21 (Δεουσδέδιτ ἐπίσκοπος Καράλλεως), p. 391, line 21 ("Deusdedit episcopus sanctae Caralitanae ecclesiae").
