A Stoudite monk, Bassianos 1 was the addressee of three letters from Theodoros 15 (Theodore the Stoudite) in 816: Theod. Stud., Ep. 125 (early summer 816), Ep. 199 (L 816/E 817), Ep. 237 (M/L 816) (all addressed Βασσιανῷ τέκνῳ). Bassianos 1 was imprisoned for supporting the veneration of icons in 816 and was separated from the company of his fellow-monks; Theodoros 15 wrote him a letter of reassurance; Bassianos 1 is styled ἀνδρὰ γενναῖον and addressed as τέκνον μου ἠγαπημένον and καλόν μου τέκνον: Theod. Stud., Ep. 125.

Bassianos 1 suffered beatings as well as solitary imprisonment and Theodoros 15 wrote him a letter of encouragement; he is addressed as τέκνον μου Βασσιανέ: Theod. Stud., Ep. 237. He shared imprisonment with Thaddaios 1, Dorotheos 9, Bessarion 1 and Iakobos 14 and was urged by Theodoros 15 to remain firm and not to be frightened by what others were suffering; this letter was written after the death as a result of beatings of Thaddaios 1; Bassianos 1 is addressed as ὦ τέκνον: Theod. Stud., Ep. 199. Bassianos 1 is also mentioned in one of the sermons of Theodoros 15; the monk Iakobos 14 had recently died and Bassianos 1 was on the point of death: Theod. Stud., Catech. Parva 115. The date was perhaps 824; cf. Fatouros, p. 413*, note 814.
