Anvald 1 was chartularius of Rome, in 772, when he was sent as papal envoy to Ravenna; there he was present when another papal envoy, Gregorios 78, warned the archbishop, Leo 114, and the authorities of Ravenna to keep Paulus Afiarta (Paulos 51) safe until his return: Lib. Pont. 97. 16 ("praesentia Anvaldi chartularii tunc existentis civitatis Romane, qui ibidem missus erat ab apostolica sede").
