Textual SourcesNikaia, Second Council of (Seventh Ecumenical Council, a. 787) (Mansi XII-XIII) (conciliar)

Anonymus 71 was possibly a deacon; at the second session of the Second Council of Nikaia (the Seventh Ecumenical Council), on 26 September 787, he represented the bishop of Leontopolis in Isauria and spoke in support of the traditional veneration of icons as described in letters from pope Hadrian I (Hadrianos 1): Mansi XII 1095 (... ὁ εὐλαβέστατος τοποτηρητὴς Λεοντοπόλεως). The see was Leontopolis in Isauria, since the see of Leontopolis-Zalichen in Helenopontos was occupied by Ioannes 107 and represented at this session by Andronikos 2. Neither this man nor his bishop, Anonymus 70, nor the see is recorded elsewhere in the acts of this Council. The epithet εὐλαβέστατος often indicates a deacon.
