Abraamios 5 was a xenodochos and the addressee of a letter from Theodoros 15 (Theodore the Stoudite), probably written during the reign of Michael II (Michael 10) (therefore between 821 and 826; cf. Fatouros, p. 412*); he is addressed as τιμιώτατε καὶ περιφανέστατε, as δέσποτα (p. 619, lines 4, 24) and as ἀδελφὲ καλέ (p. 620, line 30), and is styled τὴν μεγαλειότητά σου (p. 619, line 16); he had once interceded with an emperor (possibly Michael 10, or perhaps Nikephoros 8); during the exile of Theodoros 15 at Boneta (816/818) Abraamios wrote to him there; he opposed the metropolitan bishop of Smyrna who had persecuted Theodoros 15 (see Anonymus 581); he took under his wing a friend of himself and Theodoros, Arkadios 1; at the time of the letter he had been entrusted by the emperor with a mission (ἐν τῇ καταπιστευθείσῃ αὐτῷ ὑπὸ τῶν μεγάλων βασιλέων διακονίᾳ: p. 619, lines 17-18) which involved bringing back delinquents to obedience (probably supporters of the rebel Thomas 7), and is urged by Theodoros to exercise mercy in order to secure their loyalty (ἐξ οὗ καὶ εὐσταθήσει μᾶλλον τὸ ὑπήκοον, δουλούμενον εὐνοίᾳ τοῖς νικοποιοῖς βασιλεῦσιν: p. 620, lines 48-50): Theod. Stud., Ep. 440, pp. 619-620 (addressed Ἀβρααμίῳ ξενοδόχῳ). If the allusion is to the rebellion of Thomas the Slav (Thomas 7), the date of the letter is probably 823.
