Yusuf 1's father was called Muhammad; in AH 237 (July 851/June 852) Yusuf 1 commanded the army of the Arabs; he seized and sent to Baghdad in fetters the patrikios of Armenia, Bakrat (Bagrat 1), who had visited him in order to discuss peace; this provoked an attack by the Romans and Armenians on the city of Taron, where Yusef (sic; Yusuf 1) was, and in the following battle Yusef (Yusuf 1) was killed: Bar Hebr., p. 142.
