Thomas 28 was a deacon at Ticinum under the bishop Damianus (Damianos 11); described as a wise and devout person ("Thomam diaconem suum, sapientem scilicet et religiosum virum"); he was sent by Damianus to convey the blessing of the church to the rebel Alahis 1, when the latter overthrew Cunincpert 1 and seized the throne, in order to avert harm to the church; he was treated with contempt and abuse by Alahis, who allegedly disliked the clergy: Paul. Diac., Hist. Lang. V 38. Cunincpert was sole king from 678/679 to 688/689.
