Thomais 1 was an unmarried lady, relative of Theodoros 15 (Theodore the Stoudite) and an iconophile; she sent an oral message to Theodoros 15 via an archiatros (possibly Eustratios 14), to which Theodoros 15 wrote a reply; he addresses her as ὦ τιμιωτάτη (p. 839, line 7), and describes her message as coming παρὰ συγγενοῦς καὶ θεοφιλοῦς (p. 839, lines 3-4): Theod. Stud., Ep. 551, pp. 839-840 (addressed Θωμαΐδι παρθενευούσῃ; for the date, between 821 and 826, see Fatouros, p. 488*). Fatouros suggests that she was sister-in-law of Eustratios and sister of his wife; see Fatouros, p. 488*, n. 951.
