Theodote 4 was a young girl of noble Roman descent ("puellam ex nobilissimo Romanorum genere ortam"); very beautiful with long flowing hair, she attracted the attention of Hermelinda 1, wife of the Lombard king Cunincpert 1, who noticed her at the baths (presumably in Ticinum); Hermelinda mentioned her to her husband, whose desire was aroused and who became her lover; later he sent her to live in a monastery at Ticinum which was named after her ("quam tamen postea in monasterium, quod de illius nomine intra Ticinum appellatum est, misit"): Paul. Diac., Hist. Lang. V 37. Cunincpert 1 was king of the Lombards from 678/679-688/689.
