Theodoros 83 was bishop of Myra in Lycia; in 787 he attended the Second Council of Nikaia (the Seventh Ecumenical Council). Formerly an iconoclast, he was admitted to the first session of the Council, on 24 September 787, in order to repent of his errors and to read out his confession; he read a statement identical to that of the bishop of Ankyra, Basilios 21, in which he accepted the veneration of icons, rejected the decisions of the previous iconoclast council and anathematised iconoclasts; he was then admitted to communion with the church and allowed to take his seat among the assembled bishops: Mansi XII 1007-1012, XII 1015 (styled Θεόδωρος ὁ εὐλαβέστατος ἐπίσκοπος Μύρων τῆς Λυκίας or similar). He probably attended the last seven sessions, from 26 September to 23 November 787: Mansi XII 1091-XIII 486. In the list of those present at the seventh session he is styled Θεοδώρου ἐπισκόπου Μύρων τῆς Λυκίας: Mansi XIII 365. Elsewhere he is styled Θεόδωρος ὁ ὁσιώτατος ἐπίσκοπος Μύρων τῆς Λυκίας or similar: Mansi XII 1091, XII 1151, XIII 17, XIII 20, XIII 21, XIII 33, XIII 36, XIII 37, XIII 136, XIII 188, XIII 189, XIII 381. At the second session he spoke in support of the traditional veneration of icons as described in statements from pope Hadrian I (Hadrianos 1) and condemned iconoclasts: Mansi XII 1091. At the third session he accepted as orthodox the statements of the faith contained in letters from Tarasios 1 and the eastern patriarchs and also condemned iconoclasts: Mansi XII 1151. At the fourth session he regretted the past and gave thanks that he had come to the Truth through the teachings of the Fathers: Mansi XIII 17. Nothing, he said, could be added to what the Fathers had already said and the tradition of icons was legitimate: Mansi XIII 20, XIII 21. Later he told how he identified as Hagios Nikolaos a man seen in a vision by his archdeacon at Myra, from the description, which agreed with the saint's appearance on icons; following the saint's advice, he travelled to Constantinople and unravelled some problems which the activities of certain state officials (ὑπό τινων ἀρχοντικῶν χειρῶν) were causing him and his see: Mansi XIII 33. A letter supposedly from Neilos (Neilos of Ankyra; ODB II 1450) was dismissed by him as a forgery which had once misled him and others at the iconoclast Council into supporting iconoclast views: Mansi XIII 36, XIII 37. He subscribed the statements read out from the Fathers at this session in support of the veneration of icons: Mansi XIII 136. At the fifth session he asked God to punish those responsible for trying to conceal a scholion on the second commandment which justified the veneration of icons, calling it a treasure which if known would have saved many from harm: Mansi XIII 188. He described those responsible as hiding their light under a bushel, but praised God for shining the light of salvation on those in darkness: Mansi XIII 189. At the seventh session he subscribed the statement of the faith adopted by the Council: Mansi XIII 381.
