Stephanos 127 was a hegoumenos of the monastery of Eriste, in the district of Pandemos in Bithynia, when St Ioannikios 2 received the tonsure there (ποιμένα ἐχούσης κατὰ τὸν καιρὸν Στέφανόν τινα πάσῃ ἀρετῇ ἀληθῶς ἐστεμμένον); the date is given as the fifth year of the reign of Nikephoros 8 and Staurakios 2, the twelfth year after Ioannikios 2 withdrew from the world, and in the fifty-fourth year of Ioannikios 2's life (i.e. c. 807); Ioannikios 2 spoke to him about his vision (Στεφάνῳ τῷ ἡγουμένῳ) and was tonsured by the oikonomos of the monastery, Anastasios 59, on the next day: Sabas, Vita Ioannicii 13.
