Simon 2 was metropolitan bishop of Edessa; he died in 664 ("in the year 976, and 23 of Constans, and 44 of the Arabs"): Chron. 1234, ยง137 (p. 282) ("Mar Simon ("Sm`wn") the metro ("Mytrw") of Edessa"). Cf. however Ioannes 142, whose death is recorded under the same year but who died in 648.
