Sergios 101 was a hypatos; he was the addressee of four letters written by Theodoros 15 (Theodore the Stoudite): Theod. Stud., Ep. 44, pp. 128-129 (a. 809/811; addressed Σεργίῳ ὑπάτῳ); Ep. 144, pp. 259-260 (a. 815/818); Ep. 162, p. 283 (a. 816) (both addressed Σεργίῳ ὑπάτῳ καὶ ἐξαδέλφῳ); Ep. 282, p. 422 (a. 815/818; the address is cited below). He was the son of Anna 13 (τὸ ἀγαθῆς ὄντως ῥίζης βλάστημα Ἄννης ἐκείνης: Theod. Stud., Ep. 44, p. 129, line 21).

Sergios 101 was a cousin of Theodoros 15 and brother of Theodote 1: Theod. Stud., Ep. 144, Ep. 162. He had children: Theod. Stud., Ep. 144. He reached high office in the reign of the emperor Nikephoros I (Nikephoros 8), and probably also in the preceding reign, under Constantine VI (Konstantinos 8) and Eirene 1 (ἀμείβεις ἀρχὰς ἐξ ἀρχῶν παρὰ τῷ κάτω Καίσαρι: p. 128, lines 2-3): Theod. Stud., Ep. 44, pp. 128-129. His duties involved the collection of taxes: Theod. Stud., Ep. 44, p. 128, line 11 (τοῦ τὰ βασιλικὰ χρήματα αἴροντος), Ep. 282, p. 422 (addressed Σεργίῳ ὑπάτῳ τοῦ ἀερικοῦ).

During the persecution under Leo V (Leo 15) Sergios 101 lapsed and deserted to the iconoclasts: Theod. Stud., Ep. 282, p. 422.
