Raginfrid 1 was the rival of Charles Martel (Carolus, Karoulos 2) as ruler of the Franks after the death of Pipinus (Pepin 2); at first he imprisoned Karoulos 2, but Karoulos 2 escaped and defeated Raginfrid 1, finally, at Vinciacum (Vincy, near Cambrai); Raginfrid 1 was then allowed to dwell in the city of Angers: Paul. Diac., Hist. Lang. VI 42 ("Carolus ... licet per multa bella et certamina, de manu Raginfridi principatum sustulit").
