A Lombard, Radoald 2 became dux of Forum Iulii in succession to Landari 1: Paul. Diac., Hist. Lang. V 24 ("quo defuncto, ei Rodoald in ducato successit"). The date is not known. During the reign of Cunincpert 1 (688-700) Radoald 2, dux of Forum Iulii ("quem aput Foroiuli praemisimus ducatum tenuisse"), lost his ducatus to Ansfrit 1, who seized it during Radoald 2's absence; Radoald 2 fled to Histria and then by boat via Ravenna he went to Cunincpert 1 in Ticinum; after Ansfrit 1 was captured and exiled while attacking Cunincpert 1, the ducatus was given for a year and a half to the brother of Radoald 2, Ado 3, to rule as deputy ("lociservatoris nomine"): Paul. Diac., Hist. Lang. VI 3. Radoald 2 seems never to have regained the ducatus; see also Ferdulf 1 and Corvolus 1.
