Philippos 11 was a priest in the monastery of St Vitus at Rome; after the overthrow of the antipope Constantine (Konstantinos 140) in 768 Philippos 11 was taken from his monastery by Waldipert 1 and a number of Romans and proclaimed bishop of Rome; he was then taken to the Church of the Saviour and from there to the Lateran palace; soon afterwards, following the refusal of Christophoros 26 to recognise him, Philippos 11 was expelled from the palace and slipped away quietly back to his monastery: Lib. Pont. 96. 10-11.
